Children Heirloom Portraits | Chicago Photographer
Children heirloom vignette portraits have long been a southern tradition, but they are getting more popular everywhere around the country, and for good reason. These simple, timeless portraits make classic pieces of art when framed, and I personally think they look beautiful displayed as staircase galleries! They are also meant to be keepsake to pass down generations, hence the name.
For these portraits, children sit in front of the camera and are photographed from the waist up in various positions facing the photographer and at an angle. The sessions are quick, and most of the work happens during editing, when the photos are converted to black and white, and a soft vignette is applied around the children’s head and torso. The final image is usually made in black and white, though some clients prefer full color. Overall, the idea behind the classic outfits and simple styling is to let the kid’s personality shine and to have the image be a timeless reflection of the current stage of their lives - it is all about their expressions!
I recommend Children’s Heirloom Portraits for kids between 9 months of age and 10 years old.
