Fall colors in Winnemac Park
By far my favorite Chicago location for Fall Family Photo Sessions, Winnemac Park has all the perfect elements for family photography.
Located in Ravenswood area, near Lincoln Square, the park encompasses nearly 40 acres, so there is plenty of open space to find good spots. I particularly love that the park’s orientation allows taking photos both during sunset, when the sun hides behind large willow trees creating beautiful filtered light in the background, and also in the morning in a different section of the park where trees give plenty of shade.
Another one of my favorite features is the prairie paths that criss-cross the park. In the Fall, the flowers along the path turn beautiful shades of white and purple, while the grasses keep a creamy color, and yellow leaves hang from trees alongside the path - its just a symphony of colors that give that beautiful cozy, Fall vibe. The trails themselves are bounded by wooden fences, which make for an interesting element in the photos.
And because of the variety of trees found in the park, there are always different colors and hues to chose from: maple trees that turn red-ish during peak time, other purple maples, gigantic willows with beautiful hanging branches, and lots of bright yellow colors.
Depending on the progression of foliage colors, I often recommend taking photos here in the second half of October, though I’ve often photographed into early November when the weather permits it.
Oh, and did I mention there are also sections of the park where it is possible to include dogs in your images?
